The Express Train To Rio - May 2016

2016 was a significant year for Swindon, marking the 175th anniversary of the creation of the Great Western Railway Works in the town.  We thought it was a great opportunity to join the celebrations and pay our own tribute to this significant date in Swindon’s history.  In addition 2016 saw the Olympic games head to Rio, so we couldn’t miss an opportunity to bring some of that carnival atmosphere in either.  We also covered some of the numbers by the fantastic American composer and singer-songwriter Carole King.  It’s amazing just how many songs she wrote – many of them we didn’t realise until we did our research.  And linking back to our train theme, did you know she wrote “The Locomotion” as made famous by Little Eva (and more recently Kylie)”

There is also a rather special piece of scenery – designed and built by Daryl.  It was quite a feat, and had nearly taken the steam out of him in getting it all together.  When asked he said he was chuffed by his achievement.
